We were delighted to sponsor the Pub of the Year prize at this year’s Sustainable Restaurant Associations Awards.

Barry Chevallier Guild attended the award ceremony in London, and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Raymond Blanc who picked up the Sustainable Hotel Restaurant of the Year Award for  Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.

The Pub of the Year Award is given to the pub that attained the highest Sustainability Rating score in 2013. This includes carrying out key sustainability actions and ensuring that sustainability is not only a top priority but also an ongoing process for improvement. Factors can include a commitment to energy efficiency practices, engaging with their local community and much, much more.

Winner of the Sustainable Pub of the Year 2014 Award: The Railway

The worthy winner of the Award was The Railway (@TheRailwaySW16) in Streatham Common.

This south London pub’s menu relies heavily on locally sourced, seasonal produce, it stocks a range of craft ales and plays a very active role in the community including hosting a monthly farmers’ market and children’s sewing classes.

We’ve since paid a visit to The Railway to present the award personally and make sure it had gone to a good home!

Runner up of the Sustainable Pub of the Year 2014 Award: The Cricketers

Also highly commended was The Cricketers (@thecricketershw) in Hartley Wintney in Hampshire. Situated on the edge of the oldest, continually played on cricket pitch in the world, The Cricketers has a prime location in this historic village. Boasting two ‘Claygate Brick’ open fires in the bar, this is a great place to enjoy our seasonally sourced menu, extremely well kept beers and real ales, and a very extensive wine list, perfect for lounging when the cricket is not in season.
